On The Water

Family Size Kayaks

Tuesday, February 16

I often get asked about kayaking with families in San Diego.

“Are there family size kayaks?” they want to know.

The kayaks that we use are very family friendly. And here is why.

We use tandem recreational kayaks that you sit down inside, but they have one large open cockpit. This means several things:

Valentine's Day Brunch Kayaking Tour

Wednesday, February 10

The weather looks to be warm and sunny this weekend so we have added a Valentine’s Day Brunch Kayak Tour for Sunday, February 14.

Impress that special someone with a unique and fun adventure.

We will launch from Glorietta Bay on Coronado Island and paddle under the Bay Bridge to the Ferry Landing for brunch at Peohe’s. We will have a stunning view of the downtown skyline from the patio.

Girl Scout Water Fun Kayaking Workshop

Monday, February 1

Girl Scout Troop 3076 worked on their Water Fun Badge on Sunday.

We had a lot of fun with this Girl Scout Kayaking Workshop where they learned the buddy system with their parents.

We put together a scavenger hunt so the girls could learn the names of different types of sea life, different types of buoys and different types of birds.

Kayaking with Dolphins in Mission Bay

Saturday, January 30

We had some unexpected excitement on our Pelican and Sea Lion Kayak Tour today when we discovered dolphins jumping and diving inside the bay.

In my 15 years of paddling Mission Bay, I had never seen dolphins inside the bay before.

We often see them on our San Diego Bay kayak tours, but not in our smaller Mission Bay.

Birding in the Florida Everglades

Tuesday, January 12

We saw some amazing birds on our kayaking trip to the Florida Everglades.

The most abundant there are the great white egret and snowy egret that we have here in San Diego. We saw them in large numbers all along the rivers and canal banks and shorelines of the mangrove swamps.

Florida Everglades Kayaking Trip - Endangered Species

Monday, January 11

I was totally awed on our kayaking trip to the Florida Everglades.

First, I had never been to Florida before and I expected that there would be mobs of tourists and the place would be built up with high rise hotels.
