9-Day Excursion: Manatees and Mangroves in the Florida Everglades

Saturday, January 6 - Sunday, January 14, 2007
or
Saturday, March 24 - Sunday, April 1, 2007

Experience the excitement of the tropics while kayaking Everglades National Park. There is no area more diverse in wildlife than this section along the Florida coast. This is the home of the rare and endangered West Indian manatee, Florida panther, and American crocodile.

This tour uses remote wilderness camps that are only accessible by water. We will camp on the beach or on raised platforms called chickees.

Kayaks, meals and camping gear are provided. You just bring your sleeping bag, clothing and personal items.

We paddle an average of 7 miles each day which gives us plenty of time to explore as well as relax.

Florida has a mild tropical climate with daytime temperatures 70-80F and nighttime temperatures 50-60F.

Our trip starts out with our flight to Fort Meyers where we have overnight motel accommodations.

The next morning we will be picked up by local guides and transported to Everglades National Park. There we will load all our gear in the kayaks and take off on our 7-day paddling adventure.

We will spend our time exploring the white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico as well as the mangrove line of the Chatham tributary.

In addition to Manatees we will look for Great Egrets, Dolphins, Crocodiles, Alligators, and the beautiful Roseate Spoonbill. There will be many opportunities for hiking and exploring once we reach camp each day.
