Kayaker escorts are needed every year for the annual Tour of Buoys open water swim sponsored by the La Jolla Cove Swim Club.

Family Kayak Adventure Center offers free use of kayaks for competition escorts. If you are interested in escorting a swimmer for an event, please email us.

The course begins at the boat launching area of La Jolla Shores and follows the perimeter buoys of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve for a distance of 5 miles. This is a very slow patient paddle for a kayaker but you keep busy by keeping the swimmer on course, as well as offering liquid refreshment and encouragement.

This is a USMS-Sanctioned open water swim subject to the open water swimming rules of United States Master Swimming. Each participant must have and is responsible for a paddleboard or kayak escort.
